Guilty Pleasures Are My Treasures

Okay, I'm trying to enrich my life and stuff but I realized I couldn't let go some of my guilty pleasures. I only have a few so I should be entitled to that, Right? First and foremost I strongly dislike reality shows, I don't see how people watch them! I am so much better than I use to be about watching these semi-rehearsed shows about spoiled or rich kids and adults who have romance or drug problems. I was obsessed with Rock of Love, Nick and Jessica: Newlyweds, Flava of Love, American Idol, The Bachelor, The Real World and my all time favorite..........Laguna Beach!!! No, I am not a loser and have the first season of Laguna on DVD or anything!  My guilty obsession is now on the style network and it's Giuliana & Bill!

This show is so incredibly cute!! The focus is Giuliana being infertile and how you have to laugh through the tears. Giuliana has an assistant that is just plain hilarious. The best episode is her and Bill bike in Wine Country and Giuliana gets a little tipsy! It's really a good show and it comes on Monday nights!

My next guilty pleasure is chocolate Teddy Grahams!!

and my third guilty pleasure is SHOPPING SHOPPING SHOPPING!!!!!!!!  I don't know what it is but retail therapy has got to be better than the real therapy! I have always taken the approach "if you look good on the outside, how can you feel bad on the inside?"  I know this way of thinking is not for every case but it sure helps me!
Confessions of a Shopaholic has a quote that I can relate to.
"A man will never love you or treat you as well as a store. If a man doesn't fit, you can't exchange him seven days later for a gorgeous cashmere sweater. And a store always smells good. A store can awaken a lust for things you never even knew you needed. And when your fingers first grasp those shiny, new bags... oh yes... oh yes."
I don't believe this wholeheartedly but it totally makes sense!

Now on to my next thoughts of the day, BASEBALL!!! It's such a gorgeous day here in Alabama! This kind of weather just makes me happy! I would love to finish up classes today, then take a jog around campus to see all the beauty and finish up the day eating a hot dog with a light beer at a baseball park! I absolutely love baseball season and no, I'm not one of those girls who just watch for the boys! All joking aside I really do love the game after all it is America's favorite past time! I just love being outside, and not in that let's go hiking or camping for a week , but the kind where it's pretty and there is toilets with plumbing available. I was a diamond girl in high school and some of college and I just really enjoyed the atmosphere of it all. My favorite pro teams are the Yankees, the Phillie's, the White Sox and the Braves! and of course in college baseball my favorites include the Ole Miss Rebels and The Alabama Crimson Tide. The one team I can't stand would be the L.S. Boo, L.S. Who, L.S.U. tigers, actually I dislike any sport they compete in, unless it makes the S.E.C. look better.

In other sports news my bracket finally crumbled after Kentucky lost, I of course made one smart move, I picked Northern Iowa over Kansas! so my bracket didn't crumble early on like some people.

New Title means New Things

So I came up with this new title to my page by just watching Breakfast at Tiffany's! My favorite romantic comedies and a few dramas usually acquire very unique leading ladies in roles that are inspiring in some different ways. Holly from Breakfast at Tiffany's is inspiring by her fashion sense and her sense of independence. 'Gone With the Wind' had the ever so stubborn Scarlett O'Hara. June Carter was the little gal with the big voice who taught Johnny Cash a thing or two in 'Walk the Line.' My personal favorite is a recent one, 'The Blind Side's' Leigh Anne Tuohy. I swear everyone of my friends that has seen the movie called me after they saw  it and really questioned if I could be a long lost daughter to this woman (hahaha)! I am what you call brash at times and I usually say what is on my mind, granted you may not want to hear it but biting my tongue hurts more than saying the words! That said for the most part I have a pretty big heart and love my family and friends more than you can imagine. I usually don't talk about good deeds I have done or do because to me it's not that great if you tell others about it. Weird, i know!

Anyway on a different note I'm trying to better myself and learn more about what life has to offer. I am just trying to figure out my purpose and if I am leading the life I am suppose to. BIG THOUGHTS! I have felt for the past couple of months something has been off and I can't pinpoint it. Something is missing, don't get me wrong, I'm a happy person. I go to class, do homework, work out, run, read for fun (not assigned reading), I keep myself happily entertained. I think it's important to have hobbies and be interested in things other than television and shopping. How else are you going to hold conversations with people? I am very close to my parents......maybe my mom a little too much (but after your teenage years, what daughter isn't?) I just can't figure it out!

So I'm making changes. I'm mainly just cleaning, hoping that throwing out clutter will help me unclutter my mind and help me see the light. I'm really going to focus on what I'm eating and putting in my body.  I think being physically in shape guides your brain to run in ship shape form. I am about to run some 5k's starting the end of April. I love eating healthy anyway! In the next few months I want to travel and do things I haven't gotten a chance to do before so my shopping habits and usual weekend nights out will have to take a break!

I will let ya'll know how everything is working out!

changing it up

okay, I'm slacking but I have a lot going on.........I've decided not to do "what would you do Wednesday's" this week..........honestly being on a diet there is a lot I would do for a Klondike bar so this question will be skipped for this week!haha!! I now introduce "What do you Want Wednesday's." The answer to this question could take up 5 pages but I will keep it short and go with what is on mind. I have stated earlier that I have been on a cleaning frenzy in my kitchen...........it didn't stop there, I decided to tackle my closet. (insert the Jaws theme tune) Here are pictures of things I WANT and things I WILL have at some point in my life!

I want a HUGE bathroom all to myself, If ya'll knew my "getting ready routine" you would understand! I am what some people call 'High Maintenance.'  I cannot stress to you the amounts of beauty products, curling irons, and different make-up's I have. I cannot see myself ever sharing a bathroom with anyone! Trust me, I don't think anyone wants to share a bathroom with me! I have 2 important details that go along with me having a huge bathroom:  It must have a claw foot tub!

I absolutely LOVE these! I have always been more of a shower person but if I had one of these I could see that changing! (of course I would have to have a standing shower as well) My second vice is a vanity in the bathroom! I have ALWAYS wanted one and never have had one! I would love one day not to stand and do my makeup while leaning over a sink to look into a small make-up mirror.......I'm only asking for the small things in life, Right?

Second on my list is a HUGE closet!!! If you know me or just read this blog you know why!

the sad truth is I'm still not sure one space is large enough to hold ALL my clothes, shoes, lingerie, hats, belts, and etc.  Carrie Bradshaw had it right when Big asked her if she wanted a large engagement ring, she said "No, Just build me a HUGE closet!" Amen!

The third thing on my list is a HUGE front porch!
I want to live in an older home, fix it up the way I want to! I feel like so many houses that are built today all look the same and are cheap, older homes when they were built had REAL wood and real brick. I want to sit on my front porch and swing away on a bench. Doesn't that just scream slow summer days? Did I mention Summer is my favorite season?

Only 24 hours in a day when I need 30.....or more!

I came home to my college apartment last night to one HUGE mess!!! I live with my brother and while he may be genius, he is not exactly the type who dusts, washes dishes, or vacuums.  I take that back he does vacuum his room maybe once a month??? I being the sister have taken over our mom's role somehow and I'm not exactly thrilled about it!! I left the apartment in a little bit of a mess, I returned and my kitchen looked like this!

okay, not exactly like this but you get my point! so i spent almost 4 hours cleaning and organizing the kitchen, and pantry/ laundry room. I sometimes feel as if I have no control over something or a situation  ........so to help me not go crazy I focus on things I can control.  I decided that the kitchen needed to be my victim and it looks sooooo much better!!! and I'm about to tackle the linen closet in the hallway! I just got through with homework and I accomplished everything on my "task list" for the day! GO ME!! It almost never happens but it did today. I feel the past few weeks I have not been so productive and just coasted on the minimal but maybe a week of catching up on sleep and hanging out with my parents put everything back into focus! When I finish my list of goals for the day and can scratch off each item, I feel soooo good about myself.

This is going to be a short entry because I need to organize, as far as what I'm trying to control........I'm not sure.  I will post pictures tomorrow of my clean kitchen and closet!

The Staples for Spring!

It's that time of year again when the weather outside is not demanding you to wear those chunky sweaters and wool pea coats.  That is right, the icicles from your closet door are melting and sunshine of Spring is beaming through.  Here in Alabama it seems we only enjoy Spring for less than two months or so, by the time May hits we're lucky to be in the mere mid 70's at night. I always keep this in mind when shopping for Spring clothes. I tend to stick to the basics with only a few pieces that are pretty bold.  I'm a huge fan of keeping it simple, I never want any item of clothing to be wearing me. I also tend to buy more tops and pants in a traditional fit and solid colors.  I also have to buy clothes made to my body shape, just because an article of clothing is in style and looks good on 20,000 other people does not mean I will look good in it.  There are way too many girls that make this mistake, myself included a few times.
It may be silly or way too in depth thinking but I truly believe what you wear reflects how you feel and your personality.   Just like Forest Gump says "There's an awful lot you can tell about a person by their shoes. Where they're going, Where they been."  It's almost true! I've always thought women that wear painful high heels endure a lot. All of their weight while walking is all on their feet, actually the forefoot to be precise.  These women choose to make themselves taller which leads to most other women looking up at them or on the same eye level. It's also how a woman appears to look leaner if she has a shorter torso. It's also a good conversation starter between men and women. Don't believe me? Women that do not know each other will compliment another woman on their shoes in the restroom and ask where they bought them, etc. Men will give up their seat more easily on a bus or a seat at the bar and say something along the lines of "How do you crazy women walk on those all day?" Women that wear flats are what I like to call more comfortable (obviously) a woman wearing flats usually doesn't make any sound while walking down a street but a woman in heels will make noise every time she takes a step which makes others in ear shot turn around and look, a woman in flats does not create that kind of attention. See where I am getting at? I'm assuming most women don't even know those little tid-bits about themselves. Stick with me kiddo's and I will teach you there is more to fashion than just throwing on some clothes! anyway on to Spring Staples!
Here are some Spring staples that should be in every girls closet for spring......most all year long!

1)  traditional trench coat. there is no way you can go wrong with this coat for all seasons of the year and it's been a fashion statement since the 1950's. Audrey Hepburn, Jackie O, Katie Holmes along with so many other ladies have dawned this coat.

2) The perfect Stiletto/High Heel. If I have to explain this, then you need to head over to the Style Network ASAP!

3) the Perfect Pair of jeans. These jeans should be long enough to wear with heels and should have darker wash with no holes! The jeans should be able to be paired with most tops, shirts, sweaters and blazers. The jeans should also not show all of your back behind if knelt down.
4) the long sleeve button down. I cannot stress to you how 2 or 3 of these in your closet can change your shopping world! Buy a classic, cotton, slim fit blouse. It can really show off your silhouette. Plus they are timeless!
  5) I have 2 accessories that are all about Spring! A pair of Sunglasses (I prefer the larger frame) and a headband, the head band can really open up your face and its just a cute flirty different way to jazz up the everyday hair style.

Spring is on the Way!

So I'm not the biggest fan of Spring but it's only one season away from summer which is my favorite! When I think of Spring one word comes to mind, ALLERGIES!!!! I am pretty much sick from March to May with a Sinus Infection from all the pollen! Claratin and Zyrtec and rain once a week are my BFF's! I do think that 'April Showers' may hit early this year because this is what I saw when looking out the balcony doors the past two mornings........

Both Tuesday and Wednesday night rained buckets! However I loved hearing the rain while I slept!  It's officially Spring in my mind because Spring Break starts tomorrow.  I am really not going anywhere exciting I don't think but I cannot wait for summer to start so I can see this

Yea, I like this picture much better than the other ones above. Can I just say I hope in the future I hope to have a condo on the beach just for the sole purpose of opening the windows at night so I can hear the ocean waves crash into each other.........Total Serenity. I know I will be going home for a few days during the break to see my parents and hang out with them.  I love to visit with my parents, just don't care that much for Jasper.  It's pretty much only entertaining in the summers because then I can play tennis, lay out, or go to the lake with friends and my personal favorite......run stadiums at my high school football field......yea, I know, but I love running! I usually carry a lot on my mind but a good run seems to clear everything up. Thinking about summer reminds me of swim suits which means not only working out but eating right too. I am not anywhere ready for bikini season but maybe seeing this will put me in gear
yep, I want to order this in the next few weeks.......hopefully!

What Would You Do Wednesday's?

ok, so I have come up with a cute little idea to do on Wednesday's. What would you do?......and every time I hear those words uttered I finish up the question in my head 'for a Klondike bar?' I weighed the options and decided there isn't a whole lot I would do for a Klondike bar so were going with the alternative. Each week I'm going to finish  "What would you do.........?"

this weeks question is 'What would you do if you were shopping and noticed a woman/man stuffing items in a bag and witnessed them walk out of the store without being caught, Would you tell a store associate or let it go?'

My answer would be: I would probably not say anything just given my nature. I'm one of those people that would question it in my head.  I don't know the person and I don't know their circumstances. I would probably judge the person on appearance. If I saw Winona Ryder shoplifting then yes I would probably say something to an associate. If I saw a struggling person stealing food or something then I would not turn them in. I understand Stealing is Stealing and it's a crime but I've never been the person to see things in black and white, thankfully I'm a colorful person and see all the colors.

On to other sorts, as a college student when I was in undergrad we use to have these little nights where we would skip eating at the sorority house or making something on our own (who had the time) so we would opt to eat out but we would make it into an event, after all Classes were stressful........'Wine Wednesday's ' were born! Sure we couldn't go out every Wednesday because classes, tests, and being broke would prevent it, but I sure did enjoy the times we did! So raise you glass of Pinot Grigio or Cabernet and enjoy the company your with or enjoy the peace!Cheers!

One of my favorite past times is comparing fashion accessories with relationships. It’s just something I do when I’m shopping. I like to refer to it as my many random thoughts of the day I have. For example:  I spot a black leather LUCKY purse on clearance for $29.00 and it would go with most of my wardrobe which is too good to be true but I think, do I really have the $29.00 to put towards it?  Is it too good to be true, was it placed here in the Clearance shelves by mistake?
The same mentality goes towards the way I see a guy.  I meet a guy out who is dressed well, athletic, good job or career driven, and the conversation is going well and no band on ring finger.  I think to myself, Is this too good to be true? Is he here by mistake? Let’s say he is on the market, is he worth it? I may have to sacrifice the next week by not eating out if I purchased the purse but If I make the purchase of the guy I may have to sacrifice a lot more than Chick-fil-a.
I have no answers to these questions, but hopefully I won’t have to pass up on a good deal!

Tuesday, March 9, 2010

I've decided to start blogging! I wanted to know what all the hype was about so I decided to give it a whirl! I have always been a sucker for clothes, purses, stiletto's, working out, baseball uniforms.......or the boys who wear the baseball uniforms, make-up, sunglasses, oil paintings, The New York Giants, antebellum homes, good conversations with even better wine, so why not let other people know about my annoying vices and passions in life! You ready?

My mom came in town last Saturday and spent the night with me to take me grocery shopping (I'm still a poor college student) and hang out.........only we just don't stop after the groceries are bought!

yes, my mom bought two pairs of shoes (isn't she the best?) I had really not planned on her getting me anything but "if the shoe fits............." and I would like to add to that quote a little by saying "if the shoe fits.......and is on CLEARANCE."   The Nine west shoes (brown) were originally $89.00 but paid $18.68!!! and the Sophie Max shoes (dark brown) were originally $109.00 and paid $22.93!!! MONEY SAVED $156.39 at Belk. Can you believe that? I know the Sophie Max pair I can get away with wearing for another 2 weeks or so, but won't they look great for next fall?

When Mom arrived Saturday, she came bearing gifts.............
Again, Mom is the best! I spotted these beauties at Belk in Jasper during Christmas Break............They were on sale and I passed them up because i felt guilty for Mom buying me a lot that day and Santa had been really good to me for some reason (he must not know when I was awake like the song says.) After I passed up those Fergalicious open toe sling back stiletto's I regretted the decision and decided I LOVED them. My Mom went back to Belk and of course they were GONE!!! I made it my mission since December to find these shoes again! These shoes were originally $98.00 and Mom paid $21.00!!! How heavenly they are going to look with a flirty skirt or a pair of skinny jeans and dainty clutch next Fall!!

And from the shopping trip on Saturday I ACTUALLY  made a purchase!!
It's a new floor mat for the Kitchen......I use to have one that had wine glasses on it, unfortunately after 5 years of being spilled on, and spinning in the washing machine it was time to be thrown away! My kitchen is the only room in my apartment that does not have a theme. Honestly, I haven't seen kitchen decor that fits my taste............until now!

I know, I know its not that great but I swear if I see anymore Kitchen stuff with a hen or some big Italian guy with a chef hat I'm going to go crazy! So I have decided the colors of the decor will be apple red, crisp white, and black. I think I'm going to have polka dots and..............yea, it's going to take time!

That is all on shopping and decorating I have at the moment but in other scopes of life I'm still so happy for Sandra Bullock!!! she looked amazing and held so much poise at the Oscars on Sunday night!

I was just thrilled she won! Sandra's acceptance speech was AMAZING!! I loved the movie 'The Blind Side' and thought she did such a wonderful job in her role! I teared up during her speech and teared up during the movie!  She is just one of those actresses you have to love if your a girl living below the Mason-Dixon line!

This is also a love I have.....paintings, but paintings that involve human interaction or lack there of. There is just something about how an artist can use colors, a prop, or the emptiness in the eyes of a lonely girl.  These are the next poster's (again poor college student) I'm thinking of purchasing

now the problem is deciding which one to purchase, I already have 6 of his prints, and just thought I would keep adding, I need 2 that go together because i want to move 2 that are in my room to add to the 2 in the dining room.

That is all for right now, hopefully I will have more in the next few days!
